Two arrested at Delhi airport for smuggling AED 337,000 worth of gold from Dubai

Two Indian nationals were arrested for allegedly smuggling gold into India, after being intercepted by Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The incident occurred on Saturday, May 18, as the passengers arrived from Dubai.

Delhi Customs, posting on X, confirmed the arrests were based on intelligence inputs. The officials seized 1349 grams of gold, valued at approximately Rs 85.57 lakh (around Dh 377,314).

Current regulations permit male passengers returning to India to carry up to 20 grams of gold duty-free, valued at no more than Rs 50,000. Female passengers are allowed up to 40 grams, not exceeding Rs 100,000 in value. The total weight of gold, including ornaments, must not surpass 1 kg per person, according to Indian Customs.
