In a record-setting medical achievement, doctors at Dubai Hospital successfully removed a 9.4kg adrenal tumor from a 69-year-old patient, marking it the largest such tumor ever surgically excised. The procedure, lasting four hours, involved a multidisciplinary team from various specialties including urology, oncology, and general surgery.
The patient, who had been in good health, was rushed to the hospital after scans revealed a massive abdominal mass. “Struggling with walking and breathing for months, the patient required immediate specialized care,” stated Dr. Mariam Al Raeesi, CEO of Dubai Hospital in a Khaleej Times report.
Dr. Fariborz Bagheri, the Consultant Urologist who led the team, explained the surgical challenges: “Due to the tumor’s size and its compression on vital structures, surgical intervention posed considerable risks. However, without intervention, the patient’s survival was at high risk.”
Reflecting on the successful operation, Dr. Bagheri expressed his gratitude towards the collective effort of the medical team. “We are very thankful that the patient responded well to the surgery and has fully recovered,” he added.
