Dubai International Airport (DXB) faced significant disruptions, with 1,244 flights canceled and 41 diverted due to runway flooding following heavy rains on Tuesday. However, on Thursday morning, the airport resumed partial operations out of Terminal 1, aiming to restore normalcy within 24 hours.
“We are collaborating with strategic partners and local authorities to mitigate the impact of this crisis and expedite the recovery of normal operations within the next 24 hours,” stated a Dubai Airports spokesperson in a Khaleej Times report.
Earlier advisories urged passengers to confirm flight statuses before heading to Terminal 1, with re-booking facilities unavailable onsite due to the adverse weather.
Despite the resumption of inbound flights from international airlines at Terminal 1, disruptions persist due to ongoing weather challenges. Passengers are advised to visit Terminal 1 only if they have confirmed bookings.
Emirates airline extended the suspension of check-in services until 9 am on Thursday due to operational challenges. Other carriers, including EgyptAir and SriLankan Airlines, also faced flight suspensions amid the runway flooding.
The UAE experienced its heaviest rain in 75 years on Tuesday, leading to flooding across several residential areas and disrupting normal life.
