The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a warning for heavy rains and thunderstorms set to sweep across the Emirates over the next three days. The unstable weather conditions are expected to persist, with lightning, thunder, and even hail forecasted in some areas.
Starting from Monday afternoon until early Wednesday morning, the UAE will experience heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of up to 65kmph. These conditions may lead to flooding in certain areas, with reduced visibility due to dust kicked up by the winds. The seas are also expected to be rough during this period.
Wednesday will see the northern and eastern regions of the country bearing the brunt of the rain, gradually tapering off by the evening. However, relief is expected by Thursday, with no rain forecasted for the day.
Neighbouring Oman has already been hit by heavy rains, resulting in flash floods in multiple areas. Social media footage depicted vehicles being swept away, prompting emergency officials to respond to reports of families and children trapped in cars and homes.
The recent weather warnings echo similar conditions experienced in mid-March, prompting the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) to closely monitor the situation and implement necessary measures to minimize risks.
Precautionary measures have been advised, with residents urged to stay indoors during adverse weather conditions. Companies have also been encouraged to facilitate remote work arrangements, following previous instances where unpredictable weather disrupted normal operations.
In light of the weather forecast, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has emphasized the importance of flexible working patterns to ensure employee safety, particularly for outdoor workers. Educational institutions have also been advised to offer distance learning options to students, ensuring their well-being during such weather events.
