Shaira’s viral hit ‘Selos’ returns with acknowledged collaboration with Lenka

After negotiations with Australian singer Lenka, Moro singer Shaira’s viral song “Selos” is set to return to online streaming platforms. The decision follows acknowledgment of similarities between “Selos” and Lenka’s “Trouble Is A Friend.”

In a recent Facebook video, Shaira announced, “Malapit na po naming ibalik sa mga online streaming platforms ang kantang ‘Selos’ kasabay na rin po ng ibang kanta ng aming produksyon” (“We will soon bring back the song ‘Selos’ to online streaming platforms along with other songs from our production”).

Addressing concerns about legal actions, Shaira emphasized a peaceful resolution with Lenka’s team. “Wala pong sinampang kaso laban sa amin,” she stated (“No case was filed against us”). “Naging mahinahon at mapayapa ang pag-uusap namin ng kampo ni Lenka” (“Our conversation with Lenka’s camp was calm and peaceful”), she added, highlighting an amicable agreement on the song’s release.

Reflecting on the challenges faced, Shaira expressed gratitude for the support received despite criticisms. “Naisip ko, sino ba naman ako? Isang ‘di hamak na babaeng Bangsamoro na nais lamang ipalabas ang kanyang hilig sa musika” (“I thought, who am I? Just a simple Bangsamoro woman who wants to share her love for music”), she remarked. Despite setbacks, she sees the experience as a learning curve in her musical journey.

Shaira also thanked her supporters, acknowledging the joy they brought through their renditions of “Selos.” “Hindi niyo po alam kung ano’ng klaseng saya ang ibinigay niyo sa akin” (“You don’t know the kind of happiness you’ve given me”), she expressed.

Ending on a hopeful note, Shaira emphasized the significance of “Selos” beyond herself. “Sana po ay maging masaya na lang po tayo dahil hindi lang naman po ito para sa akin, para rin po ito sa mga kapwa kong Bangsamoro artists at kapwa ko Pilipino” (“Let’s just be happy because this isn’t just for me, it’s also for my fellow Bangsamoro artists and fellow Filipinos”), she urged.
