Dubai-based vlogger Rechel Hoco, popularly known as “Rechel in Dubai,” has showcased a vast collection of sashes from her participation in beauty pageants and local modeling events. With a strong online presence, Hoco has garnered over 1.1 million followers on TikTok, nearly 500,000 on Facebook, and 30,000 on Instagram.
Reflecting on her extensive journey in the pageant world, Hoco shared, “9 years of Barangay Pageants, Local modelling, at dumadaya pa sa iba’t ibang probinsya. Looking back, Hindi ko naisip na ganito pala karami lahat ng nilabanan kong barangay, municipality at probinsya. Sa likod ng mga sashes na ito ay ang alaala ng tamis at pait ng kahapon.”
Her journey, as depicted through her sashes, spans nine years and illustrates a significant period of her life where she ventured into various competitions across the Philippines, from local barangay contests to provincial pageants. “Minsan sa sobrang pagiging abala natin tuparin ang ating sari-sariling pangarap, nakakalimutan na nating balikan ang lahat ng ating pinagdaan kung saan tayo nagsimula,” Hoco remarked, highlighting the importance of remembering one’s roots and the challenges overcome along the way.
Hoco’s post resonated with her audience, bringing to light the personal growth and self-realization she gained through her pageant experiences. “Nakakatuwang alalahanin ang mga panahon na ‘pageantry’ ang sumalba at bumuhay sa akin noong nag aaral pa ako. Mahirap paniwalaan dahil hindi ito pangkaraniwan pero ito ang totoo,” she expressed, acknowledging how pageantry played a crucial role in her life during her studies.
Arriving in Dubai in December 2022, Hoco transitioned from a restaurant staff member to an event staff at a creative company, finding alignment with her passion for the events industry.
