OFW in South Korea hailed as hero for saving co-worker’s life in factory accident

The Philippine embassy in South Korea has commended the bravery of Monico Caranay, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW), for his heroic act in saving the life of his Korean co-worker. The recognition came following a report by Russell Simorio on “Saksi,” a segment of GMA Regional One Western Visayas’ “Good Vibes.”

Caranay, employed as a factory worker, sprang into action when his colleague accidentally fell into a large press machine in Busan. His quick response in shutting off the machine prevented further harm, ultimately saving the co-worker’s life.

Expressing his gratitude, the rescued co-worker, Jaebin Cho, conveyed heartfelt appreciation, saying, “Thank you to the Filipino people in Korea, especially to Nicky, who saved my life. I will never forget you in my life.”

In response, Caranay emphasized the Filipino spirit of altruism, stating, “Our spirit as Filipinos, our hearts, we are willing to help.”

Having migrated to Korea in 2015, Caranay has since become a pastor and evangelist, residing in the country with his two children, who are also OFWs.
