Stay alert! RTA cautions Dubai drivers against drowsy driving during Ramadan

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has issued a plea to motorists to remain vigilant behind the wheel during Ramadan, cautioning against driving while fatigued or drowsy. The appeal comes amidst concerns over diminished concentration among some drivers due to changes in eating and sleeping habits during this sacred month.

In response to these concerns, RTA has launched an awareness campaign aimed at providing essential driving tips throughout Ramadan. This initiative is part of the authority’s annual traffic awareness activities aligned with Dubai’s traffic safety strategy.

Collaborating with the Ministry of Interior and other traffic safety stakeholders, RTA has approved various awareness activities for Ramadan. These include disseminating safety and guidance messages through field activities and social media platforms.

As part of the campaign, RTA has placed banners at the entrances of iftar tents across Dubai, carrying awareness messages for pedestrians and drivers. Additionally, thousands of awareness leaflets have been printed and distributed with iftar meals to target groups such as taxi and bus drivers, truck drivers, and other road users.

The campaign underscores the critical need for drivers to maintain concentration, especially during Ramadan, when fasting individuals may experience changes in sleep and work routines. RTA emphasizes the importance of heightened caution and vigilance, particularly during peak traffic hours when concentration levels tend to drop.

Furthermore, RTA has adjusted the timings of the truck ban on key routes and areas within Dubai during Ramadan. These adjustments aim to streamline traffic flow and ensure road safety during the month.

In addition to urging motorists to exercise patience and maintain safe driving practices, RTA recommends avoiding disputes with other drivers and considering public transportation if fasting significantly impacts concentration or increases stress levels.
