The Roosevelt Station of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT1) has now been officially renamed Fernando Poe Jr. station, in tribute to the late iconic King of Philippine Movies, Fernando Poe Jr.
During Sunday’s unveiling of the station’s new signage, Senator Grace Poe, the adopted daughter of the celebrated actor, emphasized the significant contributions of Filipino artists to the country. She remarked, “It is only now that artists in our society are being recognized for their contributions. Previously, they were merely perceived as actors. But today, we proudly have a train stop named after one.”
Highlighting the influential role of her father in Filipino society, she added, “FPJ has become a symbol to our citizens. Be it police officers, teachers, students, or workers, we all strive daily, aiming to provide a brighter future for our children.”
This renaming follows the official change in December 2021, when then-President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11608. This Act saw the renaming of Roosevelt Avenue to Fernando Poe Jr. Avenue. The corresponding street sign was erected in December 2022.
Significantly, Roosevelt Avenue in Quezon City’s first legislative district houses Poe’s ancestral home, where the acclaimed actor spent a significant portion of his childhood.
