70-year-old visitor to UAE saved by doctors after multiple heart stoppages due to grief

A 70-year-old woman visiting the UAE faced multiple heart stoppages, triggered by what medical professionals identified as “severe grief.” The Asian visitor, whose daughter had recently lost her hand in a car accident, was swiftly attended to by experts at Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah, saving her life.

The woman’s emotional distress culminated in sudden cardiac arrests, prompting immediate action. Emirates Health Services, overseeing Kuwait Hospital, emphasized the critical response. “Subsequent medical tests and heart monitoring uncovered a severe heart attack,” they stated.

Dr. Karim Mustafa, cardiology consultant and head of the Emergency Department, emphasized the significance of timely treatment. “The decision to administer clot-busting agents and transfer the patient to the catheterization unit within two hours played a crucial role in saving her life,” he remarked.

Dr. Ahmed Khaled Alalawi, internal medicine specialist, highlighted the impact of age on the patient’s condition. After intensive care and ventilator support, the woman exhibited signs of recovery within days, ultimately being removed from ventilation once conscious.
