A group of 42 Filipino workers is expected to return to the Philippines from Israel on Tuesday, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). This marks the sixth batch of repatriates amid the continuing conflict in the region.
The DMW announced that this latest group’s return is a part of the ongoing efforts to bring back overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) as the clash between Israel’s Defense Forces and Hamas persists, with no apparent de-escalation in sight.
In the lead-up to this, the Philippines is also preparing to welcome another group, consisting of 22 Filipinos and an infant, set to arrive on Monday afternoon. The fifth batch is scheduled to land at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 at approximately 3:15 PM.
The DMW revealed a somber note within this operation — the repatriation of the remains of Mary Grace Prodigo-Cabrera. She was a casualty on the initial day of the offensive by Hamas and was among four Filipino caregivers who lost their lives. Her sister, Mary June Prodigo, accompanies Cabrera’s remains as part of the returning group.
The official count of repatriated OFWs from Israel will reach 184 with the arrival of these two groups this week. Officer-in-Charge Hans Leo Cacdac underscored the DMW’s commitment to assisting and repatriating Filipino workers from conflict zones.
