A 14-year-old boy allegedly set his father on fire following a dispute over suspected theft at their rented home in Haryana’s Faridabad, authorities confirmed in a PTI report on Tuesday.
The shocking incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the Naveen Nagar area. According to police, the boy’s father, 55-year-old Mohammad Aleem, confronted him for allegedly stealing money. In response, the teenager reportedly poured a flammable substance on his father and set him ablaze.
Witnesses said the building owner, Riyazuddin, was awakened by Aleem’s cries for help around 2 a.m. Attempting to reach the terrace where Aleem and his son lived, he found the entrance locked. With a neighbor’s assistance, he managed to reach the room, only to find it engulfed in flames with Aleem trapped inside.
Aleem died at the scene from severe burns, while his son escaped by jumping into a neighboring house. He was later taken into police custody and is currently being questioned.
Originally from Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, Aleem had moved to Faridabad with his son in September last year, earning a living through small trades and religious donations. Investigators are looking into whether the crime was premeditated or a reaction to the father’s repeated warnings about the boy’s behavior.
Aleem’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and legal proceedings are ongoing.
