12-year-old girl suffers severe lung damage from vaping for two years

A 12-year-old girl from Thailand’s Buri Ram province is in critical condition after suffering severe lung damage linked to vaping for two years, a habit her family only recently discovered.

Her grandmother, Ms. Ae, was shocked when school officials in Satuek district informed her of the girl’s vaping history. The girl had been admitted to Satuek Hospital with breathing difficulties, vomiting, and extreme weakness. Doctors found that nearly 100% of her lungs had been damaged, and she now relies on a ventilator.

The case was highlighted by local rescue worker Paphawarin Simlakorn, who posted a warning on Facebook urging parents to monitor their children for vaping habits. He also reported transporting three other students—ages 10, 11, and 13—to the hospital recently for similar symptoms.

Authorities noted that a 15-year-old student in the same district died in January due to prolonged e-cigarette use. The incident has raised concerns over the growing vaping trend among young students.
