Former spokesperson for the Office of the Vice President (OVP), Barry Gutierrez, has openly criticized Vice President Sara Duterte, questioning her credibility in recent remarks against the Marcos administration. In a recent X post, Gutierrez highlighted Duterte’s negative public perception, referencing an online sentiment analysis by EthOS. The analysis revealed that a significant portion of the public was critical of Duterte, with calls for her resignation.
Gutierrez pointed out several actions undermining Duterte’s credibility, such as her overseas vacation during Super Typhoon Carina and her silence on pressing national issues like the West Philippine Sea and the controversies involving Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO). “Not surprising. She has zero credibility as a government critic after her actions during the calamity and her silence on critical issues,” he stated.
The report further showed that only seven percent supported Duterte’s statements, with a larger segment of the population expressing dissatisfaction. This sentiment was reinforced by a recent drop in Duterte’s popularity, as noted by a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, which recorded a significant decline in her satisfaction rating from +63 in March to +44 in June.
“We deserve better,” Gutierrez remarked, reflecting a sentiment echoed by many in the online analysis.
