The younger brother of two-time Paris Olympics 2024 gold medalist Carlos Yulo, 16-year-old Karl Jahrel Eldrew Yulo, recently opened up about the ongoing family rift between their mother, Angelica Yulo, and Carlos. The tension between the two became public after Carlos secured gold at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024, with the situation gaining traction on social media.
On August 6, 2024, a short Facebook Reel shared by a netizen revealed Karl’s thoughts on the conflict, expressing his longing for his older brother. The issue came to light following a series of social media posts by Angelica Yulo, which painted Carlos as ungrateful and distant.
Karl mentioned that Carlos has spent less time with the family since entering into a relationship with his girlfriend, Chloe San Jose, whom Karl and their mother see as a factor contributing to the growing distance between Carlos and his family.
In the video, Karl sent a message to his brother, saying, “Hindi naman namin pinipilit na bumalik, pero if ever na maisipan mo, is always free kami.”
He added, “Hindi kami lumalapit sa iyo kasi dahil nanalo ka,” emphasizing that their desire to reconnect with Carlos isn’t tied to his athletic success.
The family’s conflict also touches on financial issues, adding to the complexity of the situation. Despite the tensions, Karl expressed a deep yearning to bond with his brother without the need for words or requests, stating, “Gusto lang naman namin kayo maka-bond nang hindi namin sinasabi or hindi namin kailangan sabihin.”
