Young Filipina from Dubai becomes first to perform at Romania’s National Opera stage

After making waves at the Global Dance Open Finals in the Netherlands last year, Filipina ballet dancer Daniella Alessandra P. Daniel has etched another milestone in her growing list of international achievements — this time in Bucharest, Romania.

The young talent, who is based in Dubai and represents The Philippine School, became the only Filipina to complete the prestigious Intensive Ballet Summer Camp at Casa de Balet, held from July 9 to 19, 2025. The 10-day elite program is one of Europe’s most sought-after training grounds for ballet students aged 9 to 18, featuring some of the world’s top ballet masters.

Daniella was not only one of the youngest attendees, but also one of the few selected to perform during the culminating Gala Night held at the Opera Națională București — Romania’s national opera house. Her participation marked a historic moment, as she became the first Filipina to ever perform on the iconic stage.

The summer program included rigorous daily training in classical technique, pointe, repertoire, and contemporary dance. Mentors included internationally celebrated ballet figures such as Vladimir Shishov of the Vienna State Ballet and Isabelle Ciaravola of the Paris Opera Ballet, who offered specialized coaching and performance feedback to the students.

Divided into age-appropriate groups, the participants were immersed in a highly structured regimen that combined technical discipline with artistic expression. The program also provided support services including airport transfers, accommodation, meals, uniforms, and opportunities for scholarships.

Despite being surrounded by dancers from across the globe, Daniella stood out for her discipline and poise. Her dedication did not go unnoticed — not only by her mentors, but also by the Filipino community in Romania, who came together to support her achievement.

Among those who extended their congratulations were the Philippine Ambassador to Romania and his wife, who made a special visit to the camp to meet and encourage Daniella.

This recognition follows her top 10 finish at the Global Dance Open Finals 2024 in the Netherlands, where she also received the Crowd Favorite award for her performance of the Ballet Blue Bird variation.

Daniella’s family shared that her love for dance began at just three years old. Outside of ballet, she is an active student involved in The Philippine School’s Drums and Lyre Corps and regularly performs at community events and church functions at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Sharjah.
