In a show of compassion and swift action, top officials from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) visited four seriously ill Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) confined at Rashid Hospital and NMC Specialty Hospital in Dubai.
OWWA Administrator Arnel Ignacio was joined by Deputy Administrator for Operations Rosalia Susana S. Bahia-Catapang, DMW Undersecretaries Jainal Rasul Jr. and Dominique Rubia-Tutay, and Assistant Secretary Venecio Legaspi during the hospital visits. The initiative was carried out in direct response to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to prioritize the welfare of OFWs, especially those in distressing situations.
The team not only provided support from their respective agencies but also handed over additional financial aid from President Marcos and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos—underscoring the administration’s continued commitment to personally reaching out to Filipinos in need abroad.
Welfare Officers Judith Santos and Esperanza Cobarrubias of OWWA-Dubai are currently coordinating with medical staff and the patients’ families to ensure a smooth recovery and eventual repatriation of the OFWs back to the Philippines.
