A woman was discovered dead inside the stomach of a snake after it swallowed her whole in central Indonesia, according to a local official.
Farida, 45, from Kalempang village in South Sulawesi province, was found on Friday inside a reticulated python measuring around five meters (16 feet). Her husband and village residents made the grim discovery, the village head, Suardi Rosi, reported.
Farida had gone missing on Thursday night, prompting a search effort. “Her husband found her belongings, which made him suspicious,” Suardi told AFP. “The villagers then searched the area and spotted a python with a large belly.”
The villagers decided to cut open the snake, revealing Farida’s head immediately. She was found fully clothed inside the python.
While such occurrences are rare, several similar incidents have happened in Indonesia in recent years. Last year, an eight-meter python in Southeast Sulawesi’s Tinanggea district was killed after it was found strangling and eating a farmer. In 2018, a 54-year-old woman was discovered dead inside a seven-meter python in Muna town, Southeast Sulawesi. The previous year, a farmer in West Sulawesi was found eaten by a four-meter python at a palm oil plantation.
