Woman seen emerging from Makati drainage to receive P80,000 aid from DSWD

The woman whose photo went viral after she was seen crawling out of a drainage canal in Makati City will now receive P80,000 in livelihood support from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

According to the agency, the woman—identified as Rose—will use the assistance to start her own small retail business. “Rose will be given Php 80,000 in livelihood assistance to help her start a ‘sari-sari’ store which is her preferred entrepreneurial project,” the DSWD confirmed in a statement.

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said that Rose’s dream of owning a store emerged during a detailed assessment by social workers. “Ang magiging intervention natin kay Rose, pangarap daw niya kasing magkaroon ng tindahan at sa assessment ng ating social worker ay kaya naman niya,” Gatchalian shared.

More than just receiving aid, Rose has also pledged to assist DSWD’s ongoing street outreach program. “Rose has committed to help in the program by going out with the Pag-abot team during reach out operations to convince other families and individuals living in the streets to go to the center and be given appropriate interventions,” Gatchalian added.
