Woman kept air conditioner running for six years to preserve daughter’s body

Authorities in Taiwan discovered that a 75-year-old woman kept her deceased daughter’s body at home for six years by running an air conditioner non-stop to prevent decomposition.

According to local reports, the daughter, identified as Lee, died at the age of 53 in Ruifang District, New Taipei City. Before her death, Lee reportedly expressed a wish to be buried seven years later. To honor this, her mother maintained the air conditioning 24/7.

The situation came to light after a social worker checked on the elderly woman following reports that she was struggling to pay her electricity bills.

Neighbors believed the woman had been living alone for years, as she rarely spoke to anyone in the area.

After an autopsy, authorities ruled out foul play, noting that the body was desiccated and covered in oil. Investigators also considered the mother’s explanation regarding her daughter’s religious practices and burial wishes.

The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of death.
