A woman in the UAE has been sentenced to two months in prison and fined Dh3,000 for an assault incident. The Fujairah Federal Court handed down the judgement following an altercation in a residential building, where the woman was found guilty of scratching a man’s face, leading to injuries that prevented him from working for over 20 days.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, reported that the woman attacked him unprovoked as he entered the building, verbally abusing him and then physically assaulting him when he threatened to call the police. This led to a police report being filed against her.
Initially, the accused confessed to the assault when summoned by the police, but later retracted her statement during the investigation, claiming self-defense. She alleged that the man attacked her first, prompting her to scratch his face in response.
However, the court, upon reviewing the evidence, including a medical examination form that confirmed multiple scratches on the victim’s face and neck, found the woman guilty. The court expressed satisfaction with the evidence presented, including the victim’s statements and the accused’s initial admission, leading to her conviction.
The judgement also included a legally prescribed judicial fee, but the court did not consider the woman’s self-defense claim, citing insufficient evidence to support her allegations.
