A Texas woman shared her shocking experience of being bitten by a rat snake while using her bathroom in the early hours of the morning.
Maria Jaimes recounted the “very scary situation” to local NBC affiliate KXAN, explaining that she went to the bathroom at 4:30 a.m. with the lights off. When she sat down, she felt a sharp poke on her leg and discovered a snake under the toilet seat.
“The rat snake bit me in my leg when I sat on it,” Jaimes said. “It was terrifying.”
Startled but quick-thinking, Jaimes snapped photos of the snake as proof. “As scared as I was, I took these pictures because no one would believe it!” she said.
Despite the alarming encounter, Jaimes carried on with her day, including attending church later that morning. She also asked her husband to install chicken wire over a vent in their roof, suspecting it as the snake’s entry point.
Experts say such incidents are rare. Alan Brown, technical director at ABC Home and Commercial Services, remarked, “In 25 years of pest control, I’ve never directly dealt with a snake in a toilet. It’s more of an urban legend, but it does happen.”
Rat snakes, commonly found in the U.S., are non-venomous and typically prey on small animals. While not harmful to humans, their unexpected presence can certainly lead to a memorable scare.
