A woman was arrested after attempting to make a deceased man co-sign a loan inside a bank in the Bangu neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The incident involved Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes pushing the body of Paulo Roberto Braga in a wheelchair into the bank shortly after Braga’s passing.
In a video captured by a bank employee, Nunes is heard addressing Braga as “uncle” while urging him to sign the loan agreement. Nunes’s insistence on Braga’s participation in the transaction was evident as she forced a pen into his hand, instructing him to sign. Despite concerns raised by bank staff about Braga’s condition, Nunes disregarded them, attributing his silence and unusual appearance to his typical demeanor.
Upon realizing the situation, bank authorities promptly contacted the police. Nunes was apprehended on-site and may face charges including fraud, embezzlement, and abuse of a corpse.
Police Chief Fábio Luiz emphasized the need for further investigation into the case, particularly to ascertain Braga’s actual cause of death, Nunes’s relationship to him, and the possibility of involvement by other family members in potential fraudulent activities.
Meanwhile, Nunes’s lawyer has asserted that Braga was alive upon their arrival at the bank, adding another layer of complexity to the unfolding investigation.
