Willie Revillame addresses competition after low ratings for new show ‘Wil to Win’

Veteran TV host Willie Revillame has made remarks about competition and originality following low ratings for his new variety show, “Wil to Win,” during its premiere week. The show, which debuted on July 14, faced tough competition from Dingdong Dantes’ “Family Feud.”

In the July 16 episode of “Wil to Win,” Revillame touched on the issue of ratings. “Alam niyo nakakatuwa ang buhay, para sakin ang ratings kayo. Kung may makikita kayo na pinapakita nila ratings nila na mataas sila, hindi ho kami naapektuhan kasi ang puso namin magbigay ng saya at pag-asa sainyo,” he said, emphasizing his commitment to entertaining and giving hope to viewers.

Revillame also highlighted the originality of his show. “Basta tuloy tuloy lang magtrabaho dito sa TV5. Ayusin namin mapasaya kayo araw araw at ang importante ang show na ‘to ay original. Inisip ‘to para sa inyo. Hindi ‘to binibili sa ibang bansa,” he stated, contrasting his program with others that might be adaptations of international formats.

He further mentioned the July 15 episode of “Family Feud,” which featured his daughter Meryll Soriano and sister-in-law Maricel Soriano. He noted the timing of the episode, airing concurrently with his live broadcast. “Saka hindi kami nakatape, naka-live kami. Saka ang nakakatuwa ho ‘yung naglive ako kahapon ‘yung anak ko, si Ms. Maricel at ‘yung aking mga ano tinapat pa sa programa ko so ibig sabihin, ‘Bakit? Ano ba ‘to, labanan ba ‘to,’” he remarked, questioning the competitive nature of the scheduling.

Revillame’s comments received mixed reactions from viewers. His return to TV5 with “Wil to Win” marks eleven years after hosting “Willing Willie/Wil Time Bigtime” and “Wowowillie” on the same network. He was previously the main presenter of “Wowowin” on GMA Network and ALLTV from 2015 until 2023.
