Filipino basketball fans were left disheartened when Thirdy Ravena, a member of the Dubai Basketball team, did not play during the team’s ABA League debut. Many were eager to see the Filipino star, only to be disappointed when he stayed on the bench.
“Last night, Filipino basketball fans had a significant turnout to support Thirdy Ravena. However, there seemed to be some confusion as he didn’t get the chance to play,” said long-time OFW Ron Awa. He emphasized that the Filipino community’s passion for basketball was overlooked, and hopes for more opportunities for Filipino players like Ravena to showcase their talent.
In a Facebook post, user Solar Boiz quipped, “Next time wala nang manunood ditong Pinoy,” expressing frustration after attending solely to see Ravena play.
Several fans in the arena were heard chanting Ravena’s name, urging the team to let him play, but to no avail.
Yael Mayuga, another fan, posted pictures from the event with the caption, “Ung nanood aq para makita laro ni Thirdy Ravena, tas nd ipinasok. Umay sa coach.”
Despite the 86-84 victory by Dubai Basketball, which secured an impressive win over Crvena Zvezda, the absence of Ravena left a significant portion of the crowd feeling underwhelmed. Fans are now hoping to see the Filipino star in future games.
