‘Weird flex but okay’: Rosmar Tan draws flak for her post on Bicol flooding

Vlogger and entrepreneur Rosmar Tan has garnered divided responses online after sharing her thoughts on the devastating floods in Bicol caused by Tropical Storm Kristine. In a recent post, Tan reflected on the contrasting conditions, writing about the discomfort of knowing that while many enjoy the comforts of home, others in Bicol are struggling to survive amid the floods.

“Ang hirap isip na habang kami [nakahiga] sa malambot na kama, kagigising lang at [naka-aircon], ang daming bata, matanda na di na alam paano ililigtas sarili sa Bicol dahil sa baha at bagyo,” Tan shared, expressing her concern for the victims of the storm.

The post drew a range of reactions from netizens. Some appreciated her empathy and acknowledgment of the situation, while others criticized her approach, interpreting the message as tone-deaf given her privileged circumstances.

The Bicol region has been severely affected by Tropical Storm Kristine, with floods sweeping away homes and displacing families. Tan’s post comes at a time when she is also running for councilor in Manila’s First District for the 2025 elections. Her candidacy, which aims to expand her efforts in public service, has already sparked debates, with supporters admiring her charitable work and critics questioning the qualifications of influencers entering politics.
