VP Sara to OFWs: ‘Your sacrifices keep our country alive’

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Singapore gathered in large numbers to meet Vice President Sara Duterte during the 10th anniversary celebration of SingPhil Events and Services, according to a report by SMNI.

“I’m happy that I had the time to visit Singapore and spend time with our Overseas Filipinos who work, live, or have married here,” Duterte said, expressing her joy at meeting the Filipino community. “I’m always looking forward to the next visit so I can be with our fellow Filipinos here again.”

In her speech, the Vice President thanked OFWs for their sacrifices—not only for their families but also for the nation. She also took the opportunity to share various programs and projects of the Office of the Vice President (OVP), which she said have benefited millions of Filipinos.

Duterte highlighted her admiration for Singapore’s efficient transport system, urban planning, and clean environment, noting how these could serve as inspiration for the Philippines. “Singapore may be a small country, but they make excellent use of their spaces. They have proper urban planning, and even though there’s a lot of concrete, there are also plenty of trees and green areas,” she said.

The Vice President urged OFWs to uphold discipline, order, and the fight against corruption wherever they go.

Senator Robinhood Padilla, who also attended the event along with Atty. Vic Rodriguez, Atty. Jimmy Bondoc, Atty. Jayvee Hinlo, and Dr. Richard Mata, expressed his gratitude to Duterte. “I sincerely thank Vice President Sara Duterte because she’s fulfilling her role by visiting OFWs around the world. We all know they are the ones sustaining our economy,” Padilla said.
