VP Sara Duterte calls for humility and kindness as nation marks Feast of Jesus Nazareno

Vice President Sara Duterte urged Filipino Catholics to embrace humility, kindness, and mercy, especially toward those in need, as the nation commemorated the 2025 Feast of Jesus Nazareno.

In her statement on Thursday, Duterte highlighted the deep faith of devotees in the Black Nazarene, describing it as a testament to their trust in God’s miracles, which provide strength and resilience amid life’s challenges. “The Black Nazarene is a reminder that we do not face our struggles alone, as God walks with us, guiding and carrying the cross on the path to salvation,” she said.

The Vice President called on the faithful to pray for the country and their fellow Filipinos, especially those who are sick, suffering, or in dire need. She encouraged everyone to reflect on their mission as God’s children through prayer and acts of compassion, even toward those who may have wronged them.

The Feast of Jesus Nazareno, which began on December 31, 2024, culminates on January 9, 2025, with the traditional Traslacion. This annual procession sees the 400-year-old image of Jesus Nazareno carried from the Quirino Grandstand to the Quiapo Church. The Traslacion officially began at 4:41 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Quiapo Church.
