VP Sara asks for good health and mercy for detained father Rodrigo Duterte

Vice President Sara Duterte offered prayers for her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently detained at the International Criminal Court (ICC) and facing charges of crimes against humanity.

Speaking to reporters after her pilgrimage to the Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Manaoag in Pangasinan on Saturday, October 18, the vice president said her prayers were focused on her father’s well-being.

She added that she also prayed for his temporary or total release from detention.

Sara Duterte noted that the Defense had already appealed the ICC’s decision rejecting the request for interim release.

Earlier this week, the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I ordered a medical examination for the former president to determine his fitness to stand trial and participate in upcoming proceedings.

Aside from her father’s condition, the vice president said she also prayed for “a peaceful and prosperous Philippines” and “peace and comfort for every Filipino.”
