A maritime practitioner has publicly called out volleyball player Deanna Wong after a video went viral showing her allegedly refusing a fan’s request for a selfie.
On Facebook, user Lacruiser Relativo posted an open letter expressing disappointment after watching the clip. The video appeared to show a female fan approaching Deanna, who was sitting on a bench, but quickly walking away after a brief exchange. Many netizens believed the athlete turned down the fan’s photo request.
While Deanna received backlash from critics online, others defended her, pointing out that the full context of the incident remains unclear.
In his post, Relativo emphasized the importance of humility and gratitude, saying, “Kindness doesn’t cost a thing,” and reminding Wong that her success was not built on her efforts alone but through the support of fans.
“This isn’t about a single instance—it’s happened multiple times,” he wrote, accusing Wong of consistently ignoring supporters.
Relativo clarified that he wasn’t attacking Wong but simply calling out what he perceived as arrogance. “I’m just stating a mere fact of her arrogance, angst, and misplaced pride,” he added.
As of writing, both Deanna Wong and the fan involved have yet to release a statement about the issue.
