Police in Central Visayas have filed criminal charges against a vlogger accused of spreading false information about a bus incident in Cebu.
Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, director of Police Regional Office 7, said the move follows the directive of PNP chief General Nicolas Torre III to combat the spread of fake news that can cause unnecessary public fear.
The case involves a video posted by a vlogger known as “Jaissle,” showing two men fighting inside a bus. The clip was presented online as a snatching incident, but police investigations revealed it was actually a personal altercation between the men, which happened on May 8 in Yati, Liloan, Cebu.
Maranan said the video first went viral in July after being shared on the social media account of a radio station. Authorities later confirmed that no robbery took place.
The police have filed multiple complaints with the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office, saying the misleading post stirred fear in the community. Maranan also warned that anyone using social media to spread false information will face legal consequences.
