Veteran actress Vilma Santos, known as the “Star For All Seasons,” has been nominated by the League of Filipino Actors (AktorPh) for the prestigious title of National Artist for Film and Broadcast.
AktorPh President Dingdong Dantes highlighted Santos’ extensive contributions to Philippine cinema over her 60-year career. “For six decades, Vilma has graced the silver screen with an incomparable body of work. Her portrayal of diverse characters has showcased her immense talent, earning numerous awards both locally and internationally,” Dantes was quoted as saying by ABS-CBN News.
Dantes emphasized that Santos is not just an actress but also a symbol of empowerment and resilience for Filipino women. “Known as the Star for All Seasons, she continues to excel in both reel and real life, always bringing pride to the country. Her enduring legacy as a pioneer and icon of Philippine cinema will forever shine bright in our hearts and minds,” he stated.
The group also underscored Santos’ significant role in shaping Filipino culture. “We believe that Vilma Santos has contributed significantly to the development of Filipino cultural impact and identity. Today, we honor her as a paragon of professionalism, a protector of community, a cultural champion, and a nation builder,” Dantes added.
On behalf of AktorPh, Dantes formally endorsed Santos’ nomination, “Sa ngalan po ng aming organisasyon, sa aming officers, sa aming board of directors, at ang aming board of advisers, we wholeheartedly endorse the nomination of Rosa Vilma Santos-Recto to be Order of National Artist for Film and Broadcast.”
The deadline for nominations for National Artists is June 30, 2024.
