Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Joel Villanueva on Monday said they are prepared to allow investigators to review their bank accounts as allegations of kickbacks in government flood control projects continue to unfold.
The controversy stems from claims made by former Bulacan First District Assistant Engineer Brice Hernandez, who accused both lawmakers of receiving 30 percent commissions from infrastructure funds. His testimony was given before the House Infrastructure Committee last week, GMA News Online reported.
Estrada, speaking on the Senate floor, strongly rejected the accusation and branded Hernandez as a “habitual liar.” He stressed his willingness to face any investigation. “I am open to any investigation. In fact… I am willing to sign any waiver to open my bank accounts. Let me put that on record,” he declared.
Villanueva, for his part, echoed the same position in a separate interview. “Definitely, ever since, I’m open,” he told reporters when asked about disclosing his financial records.
