The Philippine cinema landscape will extend its reach to the UAE as “Video City”, a fresh and feel-good film by Viva Films and GMA Pictures, is set to premiere in UAE cinemas starting September 28, 2023.
The film marks the big-screen debut of Yassi Pressman, tagged as The New Face of Romance-Drama, and Ruru Madrid, the Action Drama Prince. The two portray the characters Ningning and Han, individuals from different timelines who meet at a Video City store, a popular video rental place in the Philippines during the ’90s.
“Video City” is a story of nostalgia and timeless romance, directed and penned by Raynier F. Brizuela. It revolves around Han, a present-day film student, who finds himself transported to the year 1995 after a unique encounter with a VHS tape rewinder. There, he meets and falls for Ningning, a Video City staff with unfulfilled acting aspirations. As Han journeys between the past and present, the film explores the complexities of love across time.
The film not only brings a tale of romance but also a sense of nostalgia, with the setting highlighting the popular culture of video rental stores in the ‘90s. The actors, Yassi and Ruru, both shared their own experiences and fond memories of borrowing movies, resonating with the theme of the film.
Yassi Pressman and Ruru Madrid are reuniting on screen after a decade, having previously worked together in GMA shows. Both expressed excitement and comfort in working with each other, promising to bring “magic” to the audience through their chemistry and dedication to their roles.
The film also features a talented supporting cast including TJ Valderrama, Dennis Padilla, Chad Kinis, Bodjie Pascua, Suzette Ranillo, Soliman Cruz, Yvette Sanchez, and Ashley Diaz.
Audiences in the UAE can look forward to experiencing the magic and nostalgia brought by “Video City” when it opens in cinemas this September 28.
