Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has emerged as the most trusted local leader in Metro Manila, according to the latest Tangere survey, which also revealed a growing demand for more transparent and reform-oriented leadership across the region.
Conducted from April 2 to 4, the survey showed that 95% of Pasig residents are satisfied with Sotto’s performance. His proactive and transparent governance — from embracing digital tools to managing crises hands-on — has earned him widespread respect. A memorable image from the 2024 floods showed Sotto waist-deep in water, helping with evacuations.
His firm stand against corruption, including rejecting pork barrel funds and insisting on open budget reporting, further cemented his appeal.
What stood out in the survey, however, was that 8 in 10 residents from other cities said they wished their mayors led like Sotto.
Other mayors also received high marks. Quezon City’s Joy Belmonte maintained strong numbers with 81% satisfaction and 82% trust, thanks to her green and walkable city efforts. Manila’s Honey Lacuna followed closely, with high praise for her expanded healthcare programs.
San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora, Muntinlupa’s Rufino Biazon, Taguig’s Lani Cayetano, and several others rounded out the top ten. Navotas Mayor John Rey Tiangco ranked 11th, followed by local leaders from Mandaluyong, Parañaque, Pasay, and others.
The results reflect a shift in public expectations. Voters — especially younger ones aged 18 to 35 — now value transparency, real results, and effective city services over traditional politics. Top concerns include traffic, waste management, and infrastructure, indicating a more results-driven electorate.
The mobile-based survey had 2,040 respondents from Metro Manila’s 17 cities and municipalities, with a ±2.13% margin of error and 95% confidence level.
