Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto expressed full support for the Senate’s ongoing investigation into questionable flood control projects involving contractors linked to his former political opponent, Sarah Discaya.
In a media interview on Wednesday, Sotto clarified that he has not yet received any formal invitation to testify in the Senate hearings. However, he underscored that if summoned, attendance is mandatory.
“Wala namang invitation sa’kin sa ngayon,” he said. “Kahit sino naman po, hindi naman ‘yan kung gusto o hindi—kapag sila nagpatawag, required po ‘yun.”
Sotto emphasized that the Pasig local government is conducting its own parallel investigation and is ready to cooperate with the Senate’s inquiry. He made it clear that accountability must be enforced at all levels.
“Dapat managot ang dapat managot. Whether government official, contractor, suppliers, career officials. Hindi pwedeng pagkatapos ng ilang buwan tatahimik na lang ang issue at magkakalimutan tayo,” the mayor stressed.
He refrained from commenting on the recent Bureau of Customs seizure of a vehicle allegedly linked to the Discayas, maintaining his focus on institutional reform.
More importantly, Sotto called for an end to corrupt practices in public infrastructure, stating, “Ang importante, ‘yung mga infrastructure projects hindi na maulit. Kailangan matigil na ‘yung mga kalakaran.”
During the latest Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing, Sarah Discaya confirmed that she owns 28 luxury cars and manages nine construction firms. She denied any involvement in “ghost” projects. According to her testimony, her family began joining government bids in 2012 and started securing flood control projects around 2016.
Discaya and other contractors are under scrutiny after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. flagged them for allegedly cornering ₱100 billion—or 20%—of the Department of Public Works and Highways’ ₱545-billion flood control budget. Senate subpoenas have been issued as part of the probe.
