Former Executive Secretary and senatorial candidate Vic Rodriguez announced his intention to prioritize anti-corruption measures if elected in the May midterm elections, including reducing the threshold for plunder charges and reinstating the death penalty for the crime.
Speaking on dzBB’s “Ikaw Na Ba? The Senatorial Interviews”, Rodriguez revealed his proposed “war on corruption” agenda. He plans to lower the plunder threshold from ₱50 million to ₱5 million—or even as low as ₱1 million—highlighting that any form of theft, regardless of the amount, deserves severe consequences.
“Pagod na ang taong bayan sa korapsyon. Ang pagnanakaw ay pagnanakaw kahit ano pa ang halaga niyan,” Rodriguez said, emphasizing the public’s frustration over widespread corruption.
On the topic of confidential and intelligence funds, Rodriguez stated that intelligence allocations should be limited to agencies involved in law enforcement and intelligence gathering. He also called for transparency and fairness in auditing all agencies using such funds.
Regarding the West Philippine Sea dispute, Rodriguez advocated for diplomatic approaches, rejecting aggressive policies and emphasizing the importance of protecting national interests. He expressed support for bilateral talks with China, mirroring the diplomatic stance of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Additionally, Rodriguez proposed wage standardization across the Philippines, arguing that the cost of living in rural areas is not significantly lower than in Mega Manila.
