Vehicle number plate ‘V39’ sells for record AED4 million at Dubai charity auction

A remarkable sum of Dh4 million, equivalent to nearly $1.1 million, was fetched by the vehicle number plate “V39” at a charity auction held in Dubai on Sunday. The event, organized to support the Dh1-billion Mothers’ Endowment campaign initiated by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, witnessed enthusiastic bidding on a total of 10 luxurious car number plates and 21 exclusive mobile numbers from du and Etisalat.

According to a Khaleej Times report, the auction, named ‘The Most Noble Numbers,’ was coordinated by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) in collaboration with Emirates Auction and received significant backing from the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), etisalat by e&, and Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du).

The fundraising event garnered a total of over Dh38.095 million, with exclusive car number plates contributing just over Dh29 million. Notably, bids for special numbers from Etisalat and du reached Dh4.135 million and Dh4.935 million, respectively.

The most spirited competition among bidders was witnessed for unique mobile numbers featuring the coveted 7 series, symbolizing both luck and the UAE’s seven emirates. Among these, the number “058-7777777” emerged as the highest grosser, commanding a staggering Dh3.2 million after intense bidding that saw its value escalate from Dh100,000 to Dh3 million within moments. The auction commenced with RTA’s U79 number plate, which eventually closed at Dh2.55 million after starting at Dh800,000. While most numbers were sold within the range of Dh2.5 million to Dh3 million, “V39” stood out by fetching Dh4 million.
