Just days after the launch of the highly anticipated iPhone 15 and 15 Pro Max, several users have reported that the devices overheat, sometimes to the point where they become too hot to hold.
These claims have drawn significant attention to Apple, who had set high expectations with the introduction of their A17 Pro System-on-Chip (SoC), currently the only 3nm chip in the industry, promising faster speeds than M2 MacBooks.
The A17 Pro SoC, while boasting impressive capabilities, has received mixed reviews. Chinese technology reviewer Geekerwan released an extensive review highlighting the overheating issue.
During testing, he experienced temperatures reaching up to 48°C while playing Genshin Impact with high graphic settings and noted performance throttling when the device was under stress.
Canadian tech content creator RJey voiced his concerns on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, claiming the iPhone Pro Max “gets so hot sometimes, that if you’re using it caseless you can’t even hold it.”
Similar complaints followed, with users expressing their dissatisfaction and surprise over the device’s heat issues.
Apple has acknowledged the overheating claims, with President Tim Millet addressing the concern in an interview with IGN.
He admitted that the iPhone 15 Pro has the power to “burn a hole” through the back but assured users that protective measures are in place to prevent such incidents.
Millet emphasized that developers are equipped with tools like MetalFX to maintain sustainable experiences and manage the device’s capabilities effectively.
