US extradition request for Apollo Quiboloy imminent, DOJ confirms

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Friday that an extradition request from the United States for religious leader Apollo Quiboloy is expected to arrive soon.

“So far, we have not received any extradition request. But Secretary [Jesus Crispin] Remulla knows that the official request from the United States is coming,” DOJ Undersecretary Nicholas Felix Ty said during a Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon briefing.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will handle the US request, conducting an initial review before forwarding it to the DOJ. Once reviewed, a case will be filed in a regional trial court to determine if Quiboloy’s offenses are extraditable under the US-Philippine extradition treaty.

Quiboloy is currently facing child abuse and human trafficking charges in Davao City and Pasig City courts. He also faces multiple charges in the US, including conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking and bulk cash smuggling.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. previously stated that Quiboloy would first resolve his legal battles in the Philippines before addressing charges in the US.
