The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced that nearly 200 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) classified as “runaways” in Saudi Arabia are set to return home soon. These OFWs, primarily domestic workers who had previously been reported as absent by their employers, are now only waiting for their plane tickets, which will be arranged by their respective agencies and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
Migrant Workers Undersecretary Jainal Rasul urged these OFWs to take advantage of the Saudi government’s grace period, which allows them to correct their legal status until November 10 through automated procedures on Musaned—the official platform of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development for managing household services.
According to the DMW, most of the OFWs awaiting repatriation are in Riyadh and Jeddah, while 54 are in Al Khobar.
In a separate update, the DMW confirmed that it has not received any requests for repatriation from Filipinos affected by the recent strong earthquake in Myanmar. Instead, affected OFWs have only sought assistance in reconstructing lost employment documents.
