‘Ugaling squatter’: Teacher under fire for derogatory remarks in viral TikTok live

A teacher has sparked controversy after a TikTok live session in which she used derogatory language towards her students went viral. The incident, captured via a screen recording and shared across social media platforms, featured the educator criticizing her students’ behavior and academic abilities, accumulating over 6 million views.

During the live session, the teacher expressed frustration over perceived disrespect from her students, emphasizing the importance of boundaries. She lamented not being paid to “act subservient” or to be made a mockery of in front of others. Highlighting her professional qualifications, she remarked, “I didn’t take the board exam just to be disrespected by the likes of you who haven’t achieved anything in life.”

The teacher accused the students of lacking respect and self-sufficiency, challenging them to take the board exam themselves to see if their attitude would lead to success. She further berated their intelligence and character, suggesting they would not find their place in the world due to their behavior and attitudes.

One student was singled out as “ungrateful” with a “squatter attitude,” although the specific reasons for the teacher’s outburst were not detailed in the video. Despite this, the online community has widely condemned the teacher’s approach, deeming it inappropriate regardless of the context.

The Department of Education (DepEd) has taken notice of the situation and is in the process of verifying the video’s authenticity.
