The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has sounded the alarm about an uptick in fraudulent social media advertisements that offer event tickets at deceptively low prices. The recent surge in these scams has seen many unsuspecting customers lured into purchasing cheap tickets, only for the sellers to vanish once they’ve secured a significant number of sales.
To counter this rising threat, the UAE authority is advocating for increased caution among buyers. It is critical to be wary, especially when the ticket deals appear too good to be true. These fake offers, though appearing legitimate initially, often mask more sinister intentions.
For the public’s protection, the ADJD has rolled out several recommendations:
Watch for Unrealistic Offers: Always be sceptical of ticket prices that seem exceptionally low. Scammers frequently use this tactic to attract victims.
Guard Personal and Banking Details: Never share personal or financial details with sellers who haven’t been verified, especially on social media platforms. This information can be misused in a variety of malicious ways.
Opt for Official Channels: For genuine tickets, it’s advised to only buy from official sources. This includes the event organisers’ own websites, licensed ticket agencies, and well-known resellers.
Residents are also encouraged to promptly report any suspicious ticket offers. An exclusive hotline, 8002626, has been set up for this purpose.
Highlighting the significance of vigilant reporting, the UAE authority reiterated that it not only aids in quick action against the perpetrators but also plays a crucial role in safeguarding others from becoming victims.
