The UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism has announced a new Cabinet decision setting updated fees for 28 trademark services, a move designed to attract global investors, empower small business owners, and enhance the country’s intellectual property ecosystem.
During a media briefing at the Ministry’s Dubai headquarters, H.E. Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry, and H.E. Dr. Abdulrahman Hassan Al Muaini, Assistant Undersecretary for the Intellectual Property Sector, outlined the details of the decision.
Minister of Economy and Tourism H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri emphasized that the initiative strengthens the UAE’s position as a global hub for innovation and enterprise. He said the new fee structure “represents an important step in enhancing the UAE’s attractiveness to international investors, attracting global companies, and supporting SME owners and People of Determination.”
New framework for trademark services
The decision introduces seven new trademark services, including a one-day examination option priced at AED 2,250 and registration for geographical indications at AED 6,500. Other new services include grievance procedures for cancellations and refusals, conversion of national to international trademarks, and registration renewals for foreign company branches.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved a merged fee structure for four renewal services, standardizing renewal costs between AED 5,750 and AED 9,750, depending on timing and category.
Exemptions for SMEs and People of Determination
To promote inclusivity, the new framework grants members of the National Programme for Small and Medium Enterprises a 50% reduction on trademark service fees, while People of Determination receive a full exemption. These measures are part of the UAE’s drive to support entrepreneurship and make the business environment more accessible and efficient.
Strengthening the UAE’s IP ecosystem
Dr. Al Muaini said the fee amendments will “enhance the flexibility and efficiency” of the trademark system, improve service delivery, and align with the We the UAE 2031 vision—aiming to position the country as a leading global destination for innovation by the next decade.
The Ministry also announced a one-day review pathway for trademark registration applications, enabling faster examination at the initial submission stage.
Record growth in trademark registrations
According to the Ministry, trademark registrations in the UAE have surged by 129% in the first half of 2025, with 19,957 trademarks registered compared to 8,711 during the same period last year.
By the end of September 2025, the UAE had recorded a total of 402,311 national and international trademarks, reflecting the country’s steady progress toward becoming a global leader in intellectual property protection and business innovation.
