The UAE is set to experience its summer solstice on June 21, marking the longest day of the year with daylight lasting for approximately 13 hours and 48 minutes. While globally the solstice will occur on June 20 at 20:51 UTC, the earliest since 1796, the UAE will observe its longest day on June 21, according to the Emirates Astronomy Society.
This astronomical event signifies the beginning of summer, characterized by one of the Earth’s poles reaching its maximum tilt towards the sun. This period, also known as the astronomical summer, witnesses the sun at its northernmost point, directly over the Tropic of Cancer, creating minimal shadows at noon across certain southern regions of the country.
Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, noted that during this phase, temperatures are expected to range between 41ºC and 43ºC during the day, and cool down to between 26ºC and 29ºC at night, with some areas potentially exceeding 50ºC.
The weather outlook from June 21 to August 10 predicts dry conditions with hot and dry winds prevalent in the northern and northwestern parts of the UAE.
