UAE residents and citizens will soon enjoy the privilege of renewing their passports and Emirates IDs around the clock. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has announced plans to deploy kiosks that can instantly process these renewals.
As part of the pilot project, these kiosks will be strategically placed at major locations throughout the UAE, including airports and shopping malls. A prototype kiosk is currently on display at Gitex Global at the Dubai World Trade Centre, a premier global tech event attended by over 6,000 technology firms showcasing their cutting-edge innovations.
In the initial phase, the kiosks will primarily facilitate the submission of biometrics, eliminating the need for scheduling appointments at ICP service centres. This move aims to provide convenience, as the services will soon be available 24/7.
A significant feature of these kiosks will be the integrated printer, allowing users to immediately print their Emirates IDs, visas, and even passports. Tourists can also utilize the kiosks for biometric submissions to obtain SIM cards.
Equipped to capture fingerprints, signatures, and photographs, the rollout of these kiosks is anticipated post successful trials, potentially in 2023 or 2024.
