UAE temperatures hit 50.8°C as summer intensifies

The UAE is experiencing a significant heat wave, with temperatures reaching new highs. On July 9, the mercury soared to 50.8°C in Sweihan at 3:45 pm local time, as reported by the National Centre of Meteorology. This marks the second consecutive day that temperatures have exceeded 50°C, following a high of 50.7°C on July 8.

As the country enters peak summer, typically beginning in mid-July, the Ministry of Health and Prevention has clarified the definition of a heatwave. According to the ministry, a heatwave occurs when temperatures surpass their normal average for several consecutive days, rather than just isolated spikes in temperature.

Despite the intense heat across most of the UAE, some regions may experience relief in the form of summer showers, which are expected to continue until September.
