In a bid to curb illegal recruitment and mediation activities, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) in the UAE has cracked down on 55 entities, including 5 social media accounts, for operating without the required permits in 2023.
The MoHRE imposed penalties on these violators, which include fines, restrictions in the ministry’s records, and referrals to the Public Prosecution. Additionally, the social media accounts involved in these illicit activities have been blocked.
Under the UAE’s strict regulations, it is illegal to recruit or offer temporary employment to domestic workers without obtaining the necessary permit from the ministry. Violators can face severe consequences, including jail time ranging from no less than a year and fines ranging from Dh200,000 to Dh1 million.
Khalil Al Khoori, the Undersecretary for Human Resources Affairs at MoHRE, emphasized the ministry’s commitment to enforcing legal measures and penalties against any company found engaging in such activities without the proper licensing.
The ministry employs comprehensive inspection systems that monitor promotional and advertising campaigns on social media and other platforms to identify potential violations within the job market. Additionally, they conduct inspection visits to suspected companies to uncover unlawful practices and refer such cases to the Public Prosecution.
In light of these recent developments, residents are strongly advised to verify that entities advertising employment or mediation services have obtained the necessary permits from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation before engaging with them, to avoid falling victim to fraud.
Should any individual come across violations or illegal recruitment practices, they are encouraged to report such incidents to the ministry’s call center at 600590000 or through the MoHRE smart application.
