The United Arab Emirates has mobilized urgent relief for survivors of the devastating 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck northern Cebu on September 30, leaving at least 72 people dead, hundreds injured, and widespread damage across towns and villages.
The UAE Aid Agency confirmed that relief shipments, coordinated with Philippine authorities, have been deployed to support ongoing government rescue and recovery operations. These include food packs, emergency supplies, and other essentials aimed at easing the suffering of families who lost their homes and livelihoods.
Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, underscored the importance of acting swiftly in times of crisis. “The UAE is committed to providing essential needs such as food and emergency supplies during these difficult times,” he said.
He added that the response aligns with the UAE’s broader humanitarian mission of supporting communities hit by natural disasters worldwide. The agency, he stressed, has been carrying out emergency interventions for vulnerable populations facing earthquakes, cyclones, and other calamities, with a focus on accelerating recovery and strengthening stability in disaster-stricken areas.
Local authorities in Cebu have already declared a state of calamity to fast-track relief operations, as aftershocks and heavy rains continue to hamper rescue and aid delivery in affected municipalities.
