UAE residents urged to stay home amid heavy rains and road collapse

Residents in the UAE have been urged to remain indoors as heavy rains lash the region, flooding streets and causing road collapses. The National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) issued a stay-at-home advisory, urging residents to venture out only in cases of extreme necessity.

In response to the unstable weather conditions, which are expected to intensify in two waves today, NCEMA advised motorists to park their vehicles in distant, safe, and elevated locations away from flood-prone areas. Schools have swiftly transitioned to online learning, and all government employees have been instructed to work from home on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The adverse weather has already led to numerous vehicle breakdowns as drivers attempted to navigate waterlogged roads. Additionally, the region has experienced thunderstorms with lightning and hailstones, leading to shattered windshields and sporadic electricity outages in some areas.

This marks the second stay-at-home advisory issued within two months, following a similar directive in March due to unstable weather conditions that prompted road closures to valleys and mountains.
